Art Street by El Seed

El Seed is a Tunisian street artist born in France. He creates large-scale pieces in Paris that showcase the art of Arabic calligraphy on his native city’s walls.
He speaks about his role as an Arabic artist who is trying to make it in a Western-dominated art world. The street artist is inspired by Arabic calligraphy and he uses his art to express his social condition, his feelings and his beliefs.

El Seed aims to make a social commentary about France’s political system with an emphasis on immigrant acceptance. He discusses what fed his desire to get back to his roots and how he ultimately learned about his history and culture. The artist’s work is always about a quest of identity and aims to promote Arab culture and Arab art. El Seed hopes to break down common Arab stereotypes and misconceptions portrayed by the media and society.

The Obliteration Room by artist Yayoi Kusama

The Obliteration Room is a fun and interactive art installation that specifically targets children. What began as a pristine white room filled with only white furniture such as a piano, table and chairs, was subsequently covered from ceiling to floor in colorful stickers.
Conceived by artist Yayoi Kusama, The Obliteration Room essentially transformed a traditional domestic space into a blank canvas. To create this installation, kids were give free range to cover every inch of every surface with stickers that were handed to them before entering the room. The result is an explosion of happy color that would delight even the hardest of hearts.
Part of Kusama’s Look Now, See Forever exhibition, The Obliteration Room is located at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art.

The Colima Chairs by Rafael Mayani

The Colima Chairs by Rafael Mayani make many references to Mexico.
A textile pattern, a type of material or a piece’s general shape can all be indicators of its origin, yet few furnishings can boast the abundance of such references, as do these Colima Chairs by Rafael Mayani.
The designer created this set of three seats for Mexico’s pavilion at the World Expo 2012 in Japan. Fitting with the theme of “the Ocean and Coast,” the beautiful state of Colima was selected for ethnic and aesthetic inspiration.

Elaborate weaving techniques, the color integration and the sculptural construction make the loveseat, sofa and single seater bench remarkably unique. The intricate texture, the curving shape and the bright white, pink and red hues represent dancers’ billowing dresses, while the structure of the Colima Chairs by Rafael Mayani takes cues from the monumental petatera bull ring.

Louis Vuitton Maroquinaris Zoologicae Art by Billie Achilleos

Created using Louis Vuitton leather goods, these fantasy animals are the work of the young British artist Billie Achilleos. Keeping alive the skills of a forgotten craft, Billie embodies the new generation of traditional artisans, forever inventing and creating.
These new critters were designed for the launch of Louis Vuitton’s Mon Monogram service for small leather goods.

Each animal highlights an element in the design of the products. The Armadillo was to highlight the soft yet durable quality of the leather. The Chameleon displays the variety of colour. The Grasshopper is constructed from products with zips and poppers that make satisfying noises like that of the musically gifted insect.

The Droplet outdoor workspace Concept

The Droplet outdoor workspace is an inventive seating system designed to get university students to study outside.
Droplet was designed by Nick Chubb, a designer obviously against the stuffiness and antisocial studying that occurs inside of college libraries and computer labs.
The Droplet outdoor workspace consists of six hanging chairs (droplets) and two tables. The droplets can be repositioned and re-sized to fit students of all shapes and heights. The unique shape of the chairs ensures that students will be able to study rain or shine.
Creative seating like the Droplet would be a great way to get students to study outside in the sunshine. Here’s to hoping that Chubb designs an indoor version of droplet sometime soon.

Star Wars themed Evian water bottles

Mandy Brencys created this awesome series of Star Wars themed Evian water bottles, each featuring a different character from the series:
“Star Wars by Evian, is an innovative intergalactic take on design packaging. Shaped to be wielded like a lightsaber, and striking enough to distinguish which side you have chosen — Jedi or Sith, these glass water bottles will take you to a galaxy far far away.”
Sadly, this appears to be a student project, so you shouldn’t expect to see them in stores anytime soon – if ever.

The Wax Candelier by Takeshi Miyakawa

The Wax Candelier by Takeshi Miyakawa is one of the more unique chandeliers made in a long time. It might look like a classically decorative chandelier, but it is actually made entirely out of wax; hence its name ‘Candelier,’ which is a hybrid word between candle and chandelier.
Since the Candelier by Takeshi Miyakawa is made entirely out of wax, when it is lit, it will naturally drip hot wax onto whatever surface it is directly above, including potential people.

Created for the Creatomatic show at New York’s Eyebeam Gallery, it took ten weeks to cast and mold. It’s a shame that it will only take a few hours for this intricate candle creation to melt away.

The Kleenex desktop companion

The Kleenex desktop companion designed by Chris Yoon a student at Portfolio Centre, is an amazing project!
This project began with a thought to design packaging with designers in mind, so eventually landed upon Kleenex.
The packaging was designed so that it would be something that you would enjoy having on your desk. Beyond simply decorating a Kleenex box, the product (the tissues) interacts with the packaging once it was open, which eventually led to a typewriter loaded with paper, a whale spraying from his blowhole, a cottage emitting smoke, and any number of executions that fit that idea.

Rhino chair by Maximo Riera

Spanish artist Maximo Riera has come up with a collection of Rhino chair. This chair, that would certainly lend a beauty to your home, forms a part of the artist’s Animal Chair collection that consists of furniture in the shape of various species ranging from insects, mammals to reptiles. Each piece is a perfect combination of strong and sturdy furniture a with beautiful art.
The designer has created the chair using sturdy inner frame along its body for steadiness and balance. Aware of the difficulty in balancing the chair as this was not a four-footed usual chair, the designer went on for making the hind part (the rhino-shaped head portion) heavy so as to create balance between the two front feet of the chair and the hind part. The chair is an elegant looking piece made of dark brown leather and can be a unique piece of furniture for any corner of your living room. The animal lovers can have a look at this intricate piece at 100% design London from September 22-25, 2011.
Maximo Riera’s collection of Animal furniture is an ‘artful’ tribute to the animal on the planet. These great works of art also display the nature’s beauty to the mankind.

AK47 assault rifles and skulls in Swarovski crystals

AK47 assault rifle created entirely from Swarovski crystals by Italian sculptor Nicola Bolla. The contemporary artist uses Swarovski crystals to create stunning works of art, which include an AK47 assault rifle and remains of the human body. Visionnaire was presented an Ossuary, a site specific project by Nicola Bolla, at the Milan Design Week (April 12-17, 2011) features 15 individual pieces, including skulls, a ribcage, thighbones and chests differently worn out by the passing of time.

While the installation may seem disturbing, it has caused a stir at the Milan show. Renowned British artist Damien Hirst lately sparked a controversy with his baby skull that’s cast in platinum and festooned with 8,128 pave-set white and pink diamonds.

Piaggio P.180 Avanti II aircraft becomes an Art piece

Renowned Italian sculptor, painter and printmaker Mimmo Paladino has become perhaps the first to turn a private jet into a work of art with the installation of a painted Piaggio P.180 Avanti II aircraft at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
Paladino decorated the turboprop with ancestral symbols, constellations and geometrical designs in homage to the skies in which it travels. The “Cacciatore di Stelle” is part of the “anthological and personal” exhibition of Paladino’s work hosted by the Palazzo Reale. The whole exposition dedicated to Paladino takes place along a 500 meters path, which makes it the longest display dedicated to a contemporary artist.

The “Cacciatore di Stelle ” will be displayed in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan from March 28th to April 28th 2011.

Pavillon360 by Austrian firm Glas Marte.

Designed by Nuyken von Oefele and Jürgen Stoppel, the Pavillon360 is a column-free glass structure that offers you an unhindered 360-degree view. The idea behind the Pavillon360 is the creation of a modular space that can be expanded and fitted out individually. The surrounding sliding doors on all sides and retractable construction elements give an impression of being an extension to living space. Four pairs of windmill-like glass are arranged together to support the ceiling, like a mirror image of the ground.
They also offer different floor and ceiling panels and a selection of exclusive interior design variants, such as a hanging fireplace or a retractable built-in refrigerator. The glass structure has also received the ‘honorable mention’ award in the Red Dot product design award 2011.

The lounge chair Designed by Karan Singh Gandhi

The Satvic Lounge Series could be exhibited in a museum or art gallery—that’s how stunningly beautiful it is. Comprised of one sculptural design, the series features different color and materials such as black, clear, white and wood that are mixed and matched for various finishes.
Designed by Karan Singh Gandhi, the Satvic Lounge Series brings to mind sinuous tendons and a futuristic feel. Overall, this minimalist piece of furniture is utterly unique, like a random brush stroke.
