Chanel Paris- Bombay Pre Autumn Collection 2012

Chanel previewed their Paris-Bombay pre-autumn/winter 2012-13 collection at the Grand Palais in Paris. Taking inspiration from clothes designed by Coco Chanel in the Fifties and Sixties, Karl Lagerfeld's latest collection heavily references traditional Indian menswear.

Lagerfeld explained his approach to WWD: "It's all about refinement. It's the Paris version of the idea of India. She [Coco Chanel] designed several Indian-inspired outfits — and that was enough. Most of the inspiration is from Indian men's clothes rather than women's clothes."

Macy’s today revealed details regarding its collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld for a capsule collection set to launch in Macy’s “Impulse” departments this fall.
Featuring limited-edition women’s apparel pieces reminiscent of the designer’s signature style, “Karl Lagerfeld for Impulse Only at Macy’s” will be sold in approximately 235 Macy’s stores nationwide and on macys.com beginning Aug. 31.
The Karl Lagerfeld capsule has a sophisticated aesthetic that weaves rich fabrics and chic silhouettes together to create a collection with a modern and versatile twist. The collection is a blend of refined dresses, airy tops, modern tweeds and his signature high-collared neck, priced on average from $50 to $170. A juxtaposition of color and graphic pattern create a vision of modern styling, while a tailored tuxedo dress with pin tucking exemplifies eternal elegance. The color palette ranges from soft to shocking pink and grey to noir. Collectible t-shirts and comfortable jackets mixed with crocodile print combine with chic leggings to give the collection a refreshing rock ‘n’ roll edge.

Madonna auctions her pair of black and white Chanel boots

Madonna has contributed a pair of black and white Chanel boots (preworn and autographed) for afundraising auction being held at her daughter Lourdes’ school, LaGuardia High School, a public high school located in New York City’s Upper West Side. This school is often referrred to as “The Fame School,” for the movie which was inspired by it. More recently, Alicia Keys and Nick Minaj are a couple of its more famous attendees and there are many, many more. Not sure what program Lourdes is a part of, but whatever it is, she had to try out for her spot. Laguardia is one of a handful of highly-ranked New York City public high schools for which you have to meet very high test-in or try-out entry standards to be admitted. As for what those boots may bring to the school, the highest bid at the moment is $2,860, with three days left.

The secret of the Handbag Chanel

Chanel gives an inside look at the making of its famous 2.55 bag. Discover here how the bag was named:
In 1929 Mademoiselle Chanel was the first to introduce an elegant version of the shoulder bag. It did already exist, in the form of a large pouch with a wide strap, but was only used by members of the military on campaign. Women discovered, to their delight, that by using a thin strap they could walk around with their hands free. A new fashion was born. From then on, Mademoiselle Chanel constantly used this idea, until she eventually created the bag commonly known as the “2.55” (which is in fact its date of birth) in February 1955.

Interesting that straps weren’t a part of bags until Coco Chanel came along!
