The $203,150 Hermès Crocodile Birkin

On Dec. 6, an anonymous bidder decided to pay $203,150 for a red Hermès Crocodile Birkin with White Gold & Diamond Hardware sold by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. This transaction has broken the record for the sale of a handbag at auction.
Birkin bags are handmade treasures by Hermès. The bags are somewhat symbols of great wealth because they are not easily obtained by the public. The bags were named after English-born actress and singer Jane Birkin and can typically fetch a price of as low as $9,000 to as high as $150,000, according to reports.
The price of the Birkin increases depending on the material it is made from.

Petit h by Hermès

Hermès has launched a new collection dubbed “Petit h”, a series of “unidentified poetic objects” formed from defective inventory and factory-floor leftovers.
Various artists have created a series of one-of-a-kind handcrafted accessories and toys ranging from leather stuffed animals to porcelain beaded bracelets.
The items are part of the Petit h collection, which is being presented at the Madison Avenue store in New York from November 2 to 23.

The collection features 2,200 creations, including doorstops made from leather and pebbles ($730 to $760); and a bamboo and crocodile swing (price upon request).
A series of items created specifically for the New York sale also will be available, such as a life-size panda bear (pictured below) made from calfskin ($100,000).

Hermes saree collection to debut in October 2011

Hermes is set to debut a limited edition collection of four to five silk sarees in India, with the beautiful sarees going for $1,800 each starting October 2011.
For an additional $500, India’s buyers will also have the option of pairing their sophisticated Hermes saree with a matching blouse.
Hermes previously released a gorgeous line of silk mousseline sarees, which retailed at around £1,200 each (plus £250 for the blouse) at Hermes’ London store on Sloane Street in October 2000. The sarees were elegantly designed by Sunita Kumar — a Kolkata-based designer (who is also the wife of former Indian tennis player Naresh Kumar) who worked alongside Hermes‘ expert in-house designers to create the exquisite collection.
As Hermes targets affluent luxury buyers in lucrative markets such as China and India, the limited edition saree could be the first of many India-specific product launches debuting from the iconic French luxury brand.

Hermès Presents Looks For Fall 2011

For his first season as Hermès creative director, designer Christophe Lemaire made his mark with a more wearable and relaxed collection than seen from his predecessor Jean Paul Gaultier. Slouchy easy shapes inspired by turn of the century fashion were a fresh turn for the label. The show ended on a bright note, with models donning teal and citrus hues.
