A new special edition for China, BMW M3 Matte Edition

While some automakers roll out special editions around the entire globe, the BMW Group has of late opted to create individual specials for specific markets. Witness, as examples, the Trusardi edition 5GT (exclusive to Italy), the Z4 Silver Top edition (Japan), the M3 Pure edition (Australia) and the M3 Frozen Gray edition (United States). BMW's subsidiaries Mini and Rolls-Royce have followed the same formula with the Mini Cooper Mat Edition (France) and Yas Eagle edition Phantom (Abu Dhabi), and now BMW has announced a new special edition M3 exclusive to China.

The M3 Matte Edition packs the same V8 engine and everything else as the standard model, but is distinguished by its special matte black paint scheme, offset by black chrome trim and high-gloss 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside there's carbon fiber and red trim, but you'll have to live in China and act fast to get your hands on one.

Lagonda luxury sedan

Taking on the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley is no mean feat. In fact few are up to the task – not even Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler. The latter has tried with limited success to turn a profit on the Maybach brand, but the latest reports indicate that it's preparing to take a different approach.
Because Daimler is used to building cars in large volumes, it has been negotiating with Aston Martin for several years now on a new partnership that could see the British automaker – which has more expertise in small-batch production – build the next generation of Maybachs. Production would, according to reports, take place at Aston Martin's headquarters at Gaydon, Warwickshire in England, pictured above.
What would Aston get in return? The technology – including chassis, engines and more – on which to base its relaunched Lagonda brand, which is part of the company's portfolio but has not been used in decades. The first Lagonda luxury sedan could be built alongside the next Maybach, followed by a high-end crossover/utility vehicle based on the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.

Meet Mr Louboutin

Famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin opened up to The New Yorker magazine about fashion, his legendary red bottoms and clogs. Here’s some of what he had to say:
“One thing I detest, I have to say, is when a shoe is too soft, and it’s molding to the foot. This is quite disgusting. And I really, really hate incredibly long shoes, where the last is very pointy, almost like Aladdin.”
“The shiny red color of the soles has no function other than to identify to the public that they are mine. I selected the color because it is engaging, flirtatious, memorable and the color of passion.”
“I hate the concept of the clog! It’s fake, it’s ugly, and it’s not even comfortable! And I hate the whole concept of comfort! It’s like when people say, ‘Well, we’re not really in love, but we’re in a comfortable relationship.’ You’re abandoning a lot of ideas when you are too into comfort. ‘Comfy’—that’s one of the worst words! I just picture a woman feeling bad, with a big bottle of alcohol, really puffy. It’s really depressing, but she likes her life because she has comfortable clogs.”
“When a woman buys a pair of shoes, she never looks at the shoe. She stands up and looks in the mirror, she looks at the breast, the ass, from the front, from the side, blah blah blah. If she likes herself, then she considers the shoe.”

Charity Sushi Cupcakes

Cakes for Japan is a series of pop-up cake shops all with the aim of raising funds for the Red Cross following the recent series of devastating events in Japan. Masterminded by Miss Cakehead and started in London, Cakes for Japan includes cake shops that have a unique twist, selling only treats which have been inspired by Japan. Green tea and cherry loaves, sushi cake pops, Hello Kitty Cupcakes, brownies representing the Japanese flag and painted cherry blossom cookies were just some of the goodies on sale at the London event, which sold out in just under 3 hours. Other Cakes for Japan events are now taking place across the UK, with one even taking place in Germany.
It’s a very simple fundraising concept and hopefully one which many more will copy. Cake makers donate delicious goods free of charge, which are then sold to the general public. All proceeds of Cakes for Japan go towards lending a helping hand—if a cake is bought for £5, then £5 goes to the Red Cross. Cake and charity certainly appear to be a perfect match.

In any case, the 180-pound 11-month-old red Tibetan Mastiff known as Big Splash, or "Hong Dong" in Mandarin, just earned the title of the world's priciest pooch. The breed can grow to be 285 pounds, and according to the breeder, Big Splash is such a perfect specimen that the eyeball-popping price is justified.
