Artist Mike Boucher presents his ‘Sun Lounger’

American artist mike bouchet takes the common shopping cart and reapproriates it, transforming it into an object of leisure and design. Bouchet alters the frames of zinc plated steel carts, cutting off the sides of the buggies and modifying their front and back panels by bending them backwards or forwards to achieve certain angles to create lawn chairs / sun loungers.
The carts' childseats are remounted to serve as headrests, allowing one to readjust it to a comfortable height. there is a slight spring to the design, reinforced at major stress points in order to retain structural integrity over time and use.
The result is a set of five seating objects, each outfitted with an outdoor, weatherproof, polyester foam cushion exhibiting different patterns.
The final collection will involve several versions including: the original design with a small parasol, one with an armrest,
a double seat or love seat, a side table, and one with a speaker attached for iPod connection.
Each version is intended to add a different level of comfort and functionality to the everyday.

Hublot and Manchester United special limited edition watch

For the third time Swiss watch brand Hublot and UK Football team Manchester United come together for a special limited edition watch. The two have been in a long standing partnership, and the fruits of their efforts should appeal to more than just sports fans. This new watch however should be a particular treat for Manchester United fans. For one thing, part of the watch comes from the actual Old Trafford stadium. Look closely at the hour markers - these applied elements are a bit green in tone. They are actually made of the famous grass from the stadium. Hublot experimented with how to do this and finally came up with a process that involves freeze drying and then lacquering segments of the grass. They almost look like "sod crystals."

The 48mm wide watch is based on the King Power collection and comes in two case materials. A limited edition version of 500 pieces comes in black matte ceramic, while a 250 piece limited edition will come in 18k King gold. Don't know what King gold is? Neither do I, but it is likely some new gold alloy that Hublot will be using on its King Power timepieces. One new element to the case design is the chronograph pushers that now have a special security bar over them for style and protection.

Inside the watch is a special chronograph movement for measuring soccer game halves. It is the HUB4245 skeletonized automatic chronograph with centrally mounted chronograph hands. Plus, the chronograph measures up to 45 minutes - the length of a football game half. The dial also has a bright red Manchester United Devil mascot figure that looks great with the overall theme. Attached to the strap is a new style of rubber bracelet with fun red strip in the middle. Each of the Hublot King Power Red Devil watches will come specially signed by Manchester United's own Sir Alex Ferguson - this is probably one of the best watches ever for a soccer team.

Madonna auctions her pair of black and white Chanel boots

Madonna has contributed a pair of black and white Chanel boots (preworn and autographed) for afundraising auction being held at her daughter Lourdes’ school, LaGuardia High School, a public high school located in New York City’s Upper West Side. This school is often referrred to as “The Fame School,” for the movie which was inspired by it. More recently, Alicia Keys and Nick Minaj are a couple of its more famous attendees and there are many, many more. Not sure what program Lourdes is a part of, but whatever it is, she had to try out for her spot. Laguardia is one of a handful of highly-ranked New York City public high schools for which you have to meet very high test-in or try-out entry standards to be admitted. As for what those boots may bring to the school, the highest bid at the moment is $2,860, with three days left.

Paris names best baguette maker

After smelling, crackling, tasting, and scrupulously examining an interminably long row of baguettes, a panel of judges whittled down a list of 174 contenders, all vying for the Grand Prize for best baguette in Paris, to just one.
Tuesday’s competition crowned Pascal Barillon the best baguette maker in Paris this year, a competition that turns humble bakers into instant celebrities and attracts snaking lines of customers outside their bakery every day.

The edible icon of Paris is an institution not just for tourists, but for the French who also rhapsodize about the best baguettes in the city.
Barillon, who owns Au levain d’antan in the Montmartre area of Paris, won the grand prize at the 17th annual competition, trumping 173 other bread batons in categories of appearance, doneness, innards, smell and taste.
In addition to winning €4,000, it will be Barillon’s baguettes which will be served all year to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
The panel of judges included artisanal bakers, food journalists and previous award winners.

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it is to launch a roadster version of its SLS AMG performance car, releasing initial — disguised — images of the vehicle.
The SLS AMG Roadster, a non-identical twin of the ‘Gullwing’ SLS AMG Coupé which made its debut in late 2009, will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, and testing is already underway ahead of the market launch.
Mercedes-Benz says that the new model was designed in parallel with the SLS AMG Coupé and therefore shares many of its features, including the performance engine.
Like its gullwing-coupe counterpart, the open version of the top-of -the-line Mercedes is powered by a 571-horsepower V8 engine built by AMG.

The car can hit an electronically limited top speed of 317 km/h (197mph) and weighs only 2 kilograms more than the SLS AMG Coupé.
Its soft-top roof can be opened and closed at speeds of up to 50 km/h and has been designed for comfort inside, with a new production process aiming to cut wind noise by improving the join between the soft top and the glass.

As well as removing the gullwing doors, Mercedes-AMG has thickened the side sills of the vehicle in comparison to the Coupé, a decision which it said improves the rigidity of the car and reduces vibration.
Inside, the automaker has rearranged the speakers of the Bang&Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system, mounting them on a cross-member running behind the seats, as the parcel shelf of the coupé model is replaced by storage for the soft top.
Although Mercedes-Benz says its current models are prototypes (hence no badge), it looks as if the final version of the SLS AMG Roadster is pretty much complete.
It will be officially unveiled on September 13 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt (September 15-25) and will go on sale in the fall.

The secret of the Handbag Chanel

Chanel gives an inside look at the making of its famous 2.55 bag. Discover here how the bag was named:
In 1929 Mademoiselle Chanel was the first to introduce an elegant version of the shoulder bag. It did already exist, in the form of a large pouch with a wide strap, but was only used by members of the military on campaign. Women discovered, to their delight, that by using a thin strap they could walk around with their hands free. A new fashion was born. From then on, Mademoiselle Chanel constantly used this idea, until she eventually created the bag commonly known as the “2.55” (which is in fact its date of birth) in February 1955.

Interesting that straps weren’t a part of bags until Coco Chanel came along!

Long Lasting Floral Spheres

Introducing Olivier Giugni’s Long Lasting Floral Spheres which are made using a special process in Bogotá and claim to maintain their look and scent for up to a year. Here’s how it happens according to Oliver:
It’s a complicated process that requires a lot of professional skill…[and] the most modern machines, which are operated by unique software. The machine consists of two chambers: the condenser chamber and the specimen chamber. Once all the roses have been placed in the specimen chamber, the machine is started and the freezing program begins, whereby the roses are frozen to -40 degrees. Then the vacuum pump comes into operation and the actual drying process commences. Because the condenser chamber is colder than the specimen chamber… the vapor is extracted from the roses under a deep vacuum and converted into ice-crystals..[which] quickly form a layer of ice in the condenser chamber. The ice is removed by defrosting [and] when no more ice forms, the process is complete.

The Cobra Phone Tag

It seems simple enough: using your smartphone to keep track of valuable nearby items like your laptop bag or car keys. So why is no one's done it before? The Cobra PhoneTag ($60) does exactly that, using a Bluetooth connection between the included dongle and your iPhone, Android device, or BlackBerry to let you know if your tagged item has left the vicinity. It immediately sends you an email or text message with GPS coordinates when it happens, and works the other way around, too, letting you "ring" your smartphone from the PhoneTag.
